DAU / MAU calculator

DAU/MAU is daily active users divided by monthly active users. It is a rough measure of how often the people who use your app at all come back within a month. A ratio of 0.2 means the average monthly user shows up on about six days out of thirty.

How it is calculated

DAU/MAU = DAU ÷ MAU · as a percentage, × 100

When to use it

Use it to watch one app change over time. A ratio that falls while both numbers grow means you are acquiring people who do not stick, which neither figure shows on its own.

What to watch out for

  • There is no universal "good" ratio — it depends entirely on what kind of app you built, and a messaging app and a tax app should not have the same one
  • DAU is one day, so pick a representative one; a launch day or a public holiday will mislead
  • MAU cannot be smaller than DAU, because everyone active today is active this month
  • Across several Analytics properties, the same person can be counted twice, which inflates both numbers unevenly
